Squared Eye

The Squared Eye is in the center of this Hardanger motif. It is square because it is worked beside each petal of the motif and unlike the Dove's Eye it does not split the petal.

At 1 bring the working thread up and form a loop to the next open space,

Buttonhole Stitch

then do a buttonhole stitch in next open spaces or between petals,

at 1 again, wrap the working thread around the first stitch by going under, over, then under it, and

then carefully pull the working thread through the back of the nearest petal. Pull the tail through the loose portion of the petal or just a few threads of the petal.
